2010 SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 1
The new season started off with the usual Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club two lap event and attracted 31 Championship entrants who all got the chance to blow the cobwebs off with 3 timed runs.
With the weather also very pleasant it was a very enjoyable day , for most.
In Sa Mandy Smith took the class win in the Metro gti from championship newcomer Leslie Wilson in his Daihatsu gtti by about half a second.
There was a close battle in the well supported Sb class with Matt Browne taking a class win on his first outing in his Clio sport, from Chris Gillie in his golf GTI, by 0.3. Third was Wayne Park in his trusty old 205 GTI.
Sc was unusually poorly supported and saw Simon Hutchinson take the win in his first outing in the Focus RS, from Warwick Bourton's M3.
A Good 3 way Mini battle in 1a saw “Dad” Graham, pip “Son” Matt Harvey for the win , with Julian Fishwick in 3 rd .
David Marshall took the class win with a 66.68 run in an unusually poorly supported 1b.
Simon Thornley returned to 2b, the kit car class now running on list 1b tyres for this season, with a win and a stunning 57.87, even though the Westfield wasn't running perfectly! Terry Dutton took second place, from John Caldicott in third.
Jeremy Wilsons' first outing in his Elise saw him within half a second of the record, but unfortunately on his own in the class.
Good to see ex Curborough Champion Nathan Rogers back with his Rover 200vi, this time in Mod Prod, with a class win.
Les Proctor took FTD in the OMS with a 56.6s run.
Rounding up the Championship Classes , Steve Male won the “Historics” class in his Scimitar GTE, from Andrew Ward in the MGB.
The Championship organisers would like to say a BIG thank you to joint sponsors Lifeline & T.B.S. for their continued support again for this, the 13 th year of the Curborough Championship.
With entries still coming in we have 47 to date, a few down on last season, with Sa, Sb, Sc and 2B the bst supported classes at the moment.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL Championship Entrants, with many meetings this year receiving low entry numbers, leaving your entries to the last minute might mean that the organising clubs have to cancel the meetings thinking they will make a loss. So, any meetings you are thinking of entering get the entries in early to try to ensure they take place!!!
The flipside of this, and the other reason to get entries in early, is that the next round, the BMRMC event on the 15th May, already has a full entry apart from reserves so any one not already entered may not get in! Remember it's a Saturday, so if you turn up on the Sunday you will have missed your runs! So the moral is; Get Your Entries In Early For The Events You Intend Running In. Steve Wood
